VMMC 8th Urology Week 2019

The VMMC, Section of Urology rounds off its 1st quarter with its 8th UROLOGY WEEK and the Inauguration of the new PROSTATE AND STONE CENTER

On March 4-8, 2019, The Veterans Memorial Medical Center celebrated its 8th Urology week highlighted by the Inauguration of the new Prostate and Stone Center and the 8th Post-graduate course.

On day 1, It started off with the weekly Flag ceremony followed by a ribbon-cutting by the Section of Urology Chief, Dr. Alfredo S. Uy, Jr, and the current hospital director, Dr. Dominador Chiong, Jr at the lobby signaling the opening of VMMC’s 8th Urology week. An exhibit and an audiovisual presentation were held at the lobby to showcase this year’s topic of interest which was Infertility. The event was graced by the top VMMC officials and VMMC’s very own Dr. David Abraham.

Few moments later, the ceremony was moved to ward 9 for the Inauguration of the new Prostate and Stone center.

On day 2, the VMMC Out-patient department was packed with Veterans and civilian because a lay forum, spearheaded by Dr. Ryan Tuazon and a free clinic was held

Day 3 was a fun filled Wednesday as the 9th Dave’s cup commenced at the Valley golf and Country club, Antipolo city. The annual golf tournament was attended by various urologist and friends around the country, notably the urology alumni of the VMMC from north to south.

The 8th Post-graduate course entitled “The Current Microsurgical Techniques and Art in Infertility” was hosted by Dr. Joseph Lee and Ms. Angela Lagunzad held on day 4 of the urology week.

The annual Post-graduate course was honored by the current PUA president Dr. Samuel Yrastorza. The event featured Professor Ju Tae Seo from Seoul, South Korea, who was the past president of the Korean Society of Reproductive Medicine, Professor Seo discussed the fundamentals of male infertility, diagnostic algorithm and management of obstructive azoospermia.

Another notable and distinguished speaker was Dr. Dennis Lusaya, Dr. Lusaya thoroughly discussed everything about infertility, most especially the medical causes of male infertility, management of non-obstructive azoospermia and techniques in sperm harvest. 

From the female point of view was another notable Dr. Rudie Frederick Mendiola, Dr. Mendiola is the current director of the Kato repro Biotech Center and the past president of the Philippine Society of Reproductive Medicine. His main topic was assistive reproductive technologies or ART. An interactive case presentation was actively participated by the speakers and guests moderated by Dra. Monette Bragais.

On the final day, a PNL masterclass was held at the new Prostate and Stone Center exclusively for the VMMC Urology Alumni. The Masterclass was directed by our very own Dr. Karl Marvin Tan, together with Dr. Jesus Benjamin Mendoza and current Chief resident Dr. Sid Sergio.

To close off the informative but fun 8th Urology Week was the movie Premier of Captain Marvel, the movie premier was SRO or standing room only, enjoyed and appreciated by the Urology community and their family and friends.
