The Urology training program in the Philippines is continuously evolving and in the advent of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic surgeries are pushing forward. To augment the laparoscopy training of Filipinos, the collaboration of the Philippine Urological Association (PUA) with EAU (European Association of Urology) through European School of Urology (ESU) and EAU section of UroTechnology (ESUT) was formed under the supervision of Dr. Juvido Agatep and Dr. Samuel Vincent Yrastorza.

The ESU/ESUT training research board created a comprehensive program for the education and assessment of the basic fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery which is now called the European Training in Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills (E-BLUS). The basic laparoscopic training program includes both an online theoretical part and four main exercises to be performed at the laparoscopic training box. After completion, the participants will be certified by EAU and receive an E-BLUS certificate. This was first introduced during the PUA Annual Convention in November of 2019 where in enthusiastic Urology trainees and consultants participated. It was a successful event which paved a way for another session in the 2022 Mid-Year Convention in Tagaytay City where 27 urologists from all over the country participated. The efforts of both PUA and EAU to collaborate and offer this kind of training was indeed a pivotal event to a brighter future ahead for all Urologists in the Philippines.
